2016
A fresh new year to love my God,
To serve my Lord and King,
To praise Him and recount His deeds,
To trust, to hope, to sing.
A budding year in which to watch
God’s perfect plan unfold,
And, in each petal, grace and love
With mercy to behold.
Three hundred days with sixty-six
To live for Jesus’ sake,
In which to trust His promises
Since He’ll make no mistake.
Here, Lord, this year of mine is Yours
As I am Yours alone,
Throughout this year show me Your ways
Your mercies to make known.

Why Won’t I Sin?
Cause Jesus bore each wicked stain
And hung upon the tree.
How could I make another blot
Upon His misery?
Cause Jesus walked to Calvary
Accounted sin for me,
My sin was laid on His account
Though pure and white was He.
Cause Jesus loves me, washed me white.
How could I sin when He
Has made me clean in His own blood,
From sin to set me free?
Cause Jesus and His Father say
And with the Spirit too,
That when I sin it grieves them so –
I will not sin, will you?

At the Voice of the Martyrs conference in MI, Dr. Jason Peters said something which really stood out to me. In his travels to meet with persecuted believers, he hears a theme repeatedly from them – Jesus is worth it. Isn’t that a beautiful testimony of the Christian life?
Jesus is Worth It
Beauty for ashes,
Comfort for tears,
Jesus is worth it –
Naught else endures.
Light in the darkness,
Joy for the pain,
Jesus is worth it –
Loss turns to gain.
Presence in suffering,
Grace for each day,
Jesus is worth it –
Near all the way.
Boldness in censure,
Promise for fears,
Jesus is worth it –
His love appears.
Heaven for ever,
Rest without end,
Jesus is worth it –
Choose me to send.

Fade, fade each earthly joy,
Leave room for heavenly vision,
That I may see my bridegroom’s face
Along the way to heaven.
Fade, fade conceited mirth,
Leave room for heavenly peace
Which reigns midst tempest’s gloomy hour
And bids my sorrow cease.
Fade, fade temptation strong,
Leave room for God’s good will,
That I may follow where He leads
And find His pleasure still.
Fade, fade now, pride of life,
Leave room to view the cross,
That I may glory in His Name
For whom all things are loss.
Shine forth heaven’s light of day,
Leave room for nothing less,
And draw me towards my heavenly goal
Of Christ’s eternal rest.

The Prodigal
(Luke 15:11-32)
He ran with outstretched arms to meet me
A wretch once called His child;
He came and He embraced me
His voice was sweet and mild.
I came to be His servant
Unworthy of His Name,
And yet with ring and raiment
He clothed me when I came.
He threw a feast rejoicing
That I at last had come.
And still I love recalling –
He bid me welcome home!

I live with no ‘what if’s,’
God’s hand is ever strong;
I trust He knows what’s best
Because He’s never wrong.
I live with no ‘what if’s,’
The past is in His hand,
He sees the reason for
What I can’t understand.
I live with no ‘what if’s’
And so I need not fear,
The future’s just as sure
To God as my last year.
I live with no ‘what if’s,’
God weaves life’s tapestry –
Though now I see bare threads,
He’ll show the top to me.
I live with no ‘what if’s,’
It’s such a place of peace,
For as I do and love
My doubts and fears can cease.
