To Think that God Would Come
If you could live without earth’s pain
Where was no death or sorrow,
Would you return and choose to face
Life’s toil again tomorrow?
Yet God Himself became a man
To bear our shame and trouble,
To face temptation just like us
And find dreams turned to rubble.
Why did He come? He came to serve,
To seek and save the erring;
On our behalf He stooped to die,
Our sin debt freely bearing.
O love divine! To think that God
Would come to taste our sorrow
That He might offer life that lasts
Through every long tomorrow.

God’s Little Gifts
The little gifts that touch me so,
Though not another soul may know,
Sent from my Father up above
Reveal to me His tender love.
Though He is great – transcending all –
He stoops to hear my every call.
Before I ask, He knows my plea
And foreordains sweet gifts for me.
He loves to grant my least request,
Yet does not give what is not best.
I could not think up on my own
The gifts He sends me from His throne.
He cares about the little things,
Glad in the joy each blessing brings;
And often He has made me smile
With blessings in the midst of trial.
Each token of my Father’s love
Reminds me of His home above;
His kindness as He answers prayer
Reveals His tenderness and care.

Storms of life around are raging,
Satan’s hosts are waxing strong
For the futile fight they’re staging
‘Gainst the Lord a mighty throng.
But I know my Captain’s ready
For the worst that man can do,
And in Him my faith is steady
For I know He’ll bear me through.
In the armor of salvation,
Stayed on Christ who died for me,
I have found a firm foundation
In His cause and victory.
All the hosts of hell may foment –
They can’t win the final fight;
They will rise for but a moment
In their cause against what’s right.
For the King of kings eternal,
Girding on His mighty sword,
Will undo the hosts infernal –
With a word cut down their horde.
Oh the joy and exultation
When the One who came to die
As the Lord of our salvation
Stands alone exalted high!

How Sure Is Your Inheritance?
O glorious thought! I am the heir
Of God who built the world.
(1 Peter 1:2-3)
He has my portion in His care
Who all the stars unfurled.
(Isaiah 45:12)
He guards my interest in His wealth
Who keeps the oceans bound.
(Job 38:8-11)
He tells me it is pure and whole
Whose saints can all be found.
(John 17:12)
He holds it there in heav’n for me
Whose worship is reserved.
(Isaiah 45:23)
He keeps it incorruptible
Whose Word is still preserved.
(Isaiah 40:8)

Just Once
How cold and hard must be my heart
If not one thing I find
For which to thank you, Father God,
Since You’re so good and kind!
However hard may be the trial,
However dark the cloud,
I know You’re with me every hour
Through all that You’ve allowed.
And when I learn to offer thanks
Just once in everything,
Soon I will praise You more and more –
Lord, teach my heart to sing.

The mystery of grace through Christ,
For many years concealed,
Has been laid open, and God’s plan
Has been at last revealed.
One hundred facets are revealed
Each time one is explored;
Each seems more dazzling than the last,
And every time we’re floored.
Though now our eyes are clouded, veiled
We see its lustrous face –
Imagine what eternity
Will show us of His grace.
