Culture vs. God
We live in a culture of moral decline
Where man is the judge and where reason’s divine,
A culture that tells us to go our own way,
To follow our heart through each scattering day.
No question’s a bad one they teach us to say –
Cast off all restraint and enjoy life and play.
You are your own compass there’s no right and wrong
(Unless your beliefs are too narrow or strong).
But God disagrees with this culture of man,
He is the Creator and settled a plan.
We may not abandon His Word for our own
As if we were judges and sat on His throne.
Our hearts are deceitful and wicked and dead,
They hate God’s authority, mock what He’s said;
Our own way brings pleasure for such a short while
Then leads to destruction with lies every mile.
A question that’s honest – to learn and obey –
Delights God who answers the righteous who pray,
While those who dare question what God has declared
Like old Zechariah find judgement prepared.
This life is for telling the gospel to all,
For labors and troubles, for heeding God’s call;
Our rest time is coming which never will end –
This life in Christ’s service His people must spend.
God’s truth is our compass, His Word is our guide,
His people must always be firm on His side.
All things must be measured by what He has said,
For by His commandment His people are led.
The way to destruction is open and broad,
The way of the righteous is pleasing to God –
It’s narrow and sheltered by hedges of thorns,
So few choose to find it or follow its turns.
God’s way is so perfect, though none understand,
He guards His own people with His mighty hand,
Rewarding their faith and obedience here
And then for eternity when He’ll appear.
I’ve made my decision, I’ll follow the Lord
And order my footsteps to follow His Word;
Though men may reject me and culture deride,
The Lord is my strength, my protector and guide.
