God Is Love
True love is such a funny thing,
It can’t quite be pinned down;
Yet thousands would give all to have
This prize of great renown.
It doesn’t like to be explained,
It’s hard to well define;
Instead you must describe true love
With instances divine.
Herein is love – God gave His Son
To come and take our place,
To live and die on our behalf,
To save us by His grace.
No greater love on earth is found
Than dying for a friend,
But for His mortal enemies
Christ chose His life to spend.
If God gave up His only Son,
What else would He withhold?
He bids us bring Him our requests
With faith that makes us bold.
Yes, this is love – He loved us first
And we must love Him too
With all our being, heart, and mind
Through all we think and do.
To love another is to do
What you’d want in their place –
To put their interests first and care
For what they need with grace.
Yes, all these things are made of love –
Reflections from above.
But if you want to know it’s core
It’s this – that God is love.
