My life is like a marathon,
A race that I must run;
Endurance is the key, I know,
To go until it’s done.
So many others finished well
They show that I can, too;
Their witness stirs me to endure
Until the race is through.
My Savior ran it, ran it well
With perfect faith and grace;
He’s my example and my coach
Throughout this life-long race.
I know that He’s prepared for me
An everlasting prize;
And when I reach the finish line
I’ll see His smiling eyes.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus
the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
