A leader once took Canaan land,
He stirred God’s people up to go.
He crossed the flooded Jordan dry
Then conquered mighty Jericho.
He dealt with sin, got right with God,
Then carried on in faith to fight.
He fought for truth as God prescribed;
For him the sun stood still all night.
He told God’s people, “Up, and take
The land that God has promised you,”
Assigned a plot to every tribe,
And urged the weak to carry through.
He helped the people to recall
The things the Lord had done and said,
Then set his seal – he and his house
Would serve the Lord through days ahead.
Who was this mighty man of God,
This leader bold, this preacher true?
The son of Nun named Joshua –
Who served God’s man and Yahweh knew.
The charge that made him bold was this:
“Think on God’s Word both night and day.
Obeying means you will be blessed.
Don’t fear – God’s with you all the way.”
And still today the words are true,
If you will take them for your own,
To walk with God and love His Word
Until you stand before His throne.
