When in life’s deepest valleys
Where joys take wings and fly,
While searching out God’s purpose,
Then may I ask Him why?
Yes, I may humbly ask Him
Why He is working so,
But to demand the answer
Is not my place I know.
Perhaps the Lord will tell me
A part of what He sees
About this pain or heartache,
This sorrow or disease.
Perhaps instead He’ll cover
The workings of His hand
With ways that seem confusing
Which I can’t understand.
Whatever is His answer
My heart is fixed to praise –
I promise I will trust Him
Throughout life’s winding ways.
