As inch by inch the sun melts back
The frost upon the roof,
I watch the glistening band retract
Beneath the sun’s reproof.

The world around is frozen hard
And yet the radiant sun
Can warm the roof with gentle rays
Until the work is done.

I watch and wonder, Does the roof
Not represent my heart
Set in a world of frozen night
Which freezes part by part?

And yet each morning when I rise,
I seek my Savior’s face –
The Sun of Righteousness shines in
With love and boundless grace

Which inch by inch melt back the frost
Until my heart is warm,
Preparing me for fellowship
As I to Him conform.

Lord, do not let the clouds roll in
Of busyness today
Before Your Word has done its work
To teach me to obey.

I want a heart that’s always soft
Because it feels You near.
Shine on my heart till it reflects
Your glory bright and clear.
