Swift to Hear, Slow to Speak
“Be quick to hear and slow to speak.”
For every mouth God gave two ears.
The wise must learn to hold his tongue
While godly words he stops and hears.
My mouth is God’s, He made my tongue,
So all my words should show His grace.
His kindness shows me how to speak,
And truth must have an honored place.
No sharp replies or gossip fit;
A Christian’s lips must never lie.
My thoughts control the things I say
So I must watch my heart’s reply.
Lord, set a guard before my mouth
And help me keep my tongue, I pray,
So others know how good You are
When they have heard the things I say.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” James 1:19
“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3
Correct, Counsel, Comfort
Dear Holy Spirit, use Your Word
To guide and guard my way
So I remember what I’ve heard
And live it day by day.
Correct my thoughts and plans, I pray,
To seek what’s good and true;
Reveal my sin so when I stray
I might return to You.
Please counsel me to know the way
That I should choose, O Lord,
That I might please You every day
And gain faith’s true reward.
Bring comfort sweet and dry my tears,
Lord, help me trust Your love,
That I might see past pain and fears
To heaven’s home above.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26
Psalm 19
When people look at nature,
They see what God has made –
His goodness and His glory
Are everywhere displayed.
When people read the Bible,
They know what God has said –
His love and His salvation
Are shown in what they’ve read.
When people watch God’s children,
They view what God has done –
His care and grace and power
Are seen in battles won.
Lord, help me be a witness
In all I do and say,
That through my life Your glory
Might shine from day to day.

John 10:10
The devil wants to steal and kill
A Christian’s faith and joy,
Our sense of peace and heart of praise
He’s plotting to destroy.
But Jesus comes to give us life
Abundant, full, and free
With joy and purpose, love and hope
That last eternally.
Between the two a war is on
And all must choose a side;
Surrender yields abundant life
That’s blest and satisfied.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
You’re leading step by step, dear Lord,
I caught a glimpse today
Of how You’ve worked things out so far
And guided all the way.
With joy and thanks I here renew
My pledge of faith to You;
I’ll trust Your plan and take each step
Because You’ll bring me through.
Oh, thank You for the way You’ve shown
Your skillful, loving care;
With joyful heart I’ll take each step
Your wisdom will prepare.

Remembered
Some people are remembered
For buildings they have built,
For monuments erected
Or statues thickly gilt.
Some people are remembered
For speeches that we quote,
For lasting books and stories
Or music’s stirring note.
Some people are remembered
For things that they designed,
For pulling back the curtain
On nature or the mind.
But, if my life’s remembered,
I hope it’s for the way
Folks saw God’s love and glory
In all I do and say.
